Greg Green has been a long-time staple of the West Central Drama and Musical program, and he has become a beloved figure in its productions for the past four years. His favorite character to play was his character in Grease, because he had a few solos and he really enjoyed the part. As if that wasn’t enough, Greg joined the Concert Choir so that he could spread his talents further. Reminiscing on his fine arts memories, Greg says that his favorite memories are when “everyone chilled backstage during musicals and plays.”

Greg’s favorite movie is Shooter starring Mark Wahlberg, and his favorite color is green  If he were to be any animal, it would be a bald eagle.

This is the time of the year when seniors are working hard and trying to get as much scholarship money as possible. It takes dedication and persistence to get resumes, essays and recommendations turned in on time. For one senior, Dave Kroon, hard work was paid off when he received the Forsee Family Foundation Scholarship from South Dakota State University.

The Forsee Family Foundation Scholarship is one of the most prestigious scholarships that SDSU offers. It amounts to $5,000 a year and is renewable for four years, for a total of $20,000. Kroon was selected as part of a group 30 applicants face a series of interviews. The 30 were picked based on their applications to SDSU.

When asked what the most challenging part of the interview was, Kroon replied with, “Waiting for my turn was the hardest part. I kept playing through in my head and imagining what was going to happen. However, once I stepped into the interviewing room, everything went fine.” Kroon will be attending SDSU to major in electrical engineering.

Even though Kroon is destined for bigger and brighter things after high school, he is still going to miss West Central. “I’m going to miss the awesome sports like cross country and track. I will miss the music, like band, choir and the musical. I am going to miss the teachers, you know who you are. I am also going to miss all of my friends, I’m sure you know who you are too.”

To Everyone at West Central,

My life as an exchange student is almost over, and I have really enjoyed it here and I am really sad to leave but, at the same time really excited toSDC10391 go home.  I will miss everyone here, and I will never forget the school year. It was a good opportunity for me and it helped me to grow up and learn more about the world. Continue Reading

Mueller Continues To Coach and Teach

Mr. Kent Mueller has worked as a teacher at West Central for 20 years, and has been coaching just as long. He was the head basketball coach, where he had an undefeated season, and is now the head football coach. Having coaching experience for many years, he has brought home 15 state titles.
Off the field, Mueller teaches World Geography, World History and Native American Studies. If he had to choose a favorite class, it would be between World History and Native American Studies. Although he enjoys watching all of the 9th graders mature over the year of World Geography, he calls himself “a history guy.”
In his future years at West Central, he is looking forward to helping every team be the best that they can be and coaching his youngest son Jeevan. He also will have to adapt to all the changes that are happening in education.
In his spare time he likes to read interesting books, hunt and fish, work on his landscaping and garden, coach the Schoolers basketball team in the summer, help take care of his grandson, travel and cook new recipes using meat.
His favorite memories at West Central are watching his daughter Kira compete in basketball and track, coaching his son Josh and being a part of the students’ lives.  Mueller has had some disappointments, but he has said all along, “This is the best job in South Dakota, and as long as I wake up every morning looking forward to going to work, I plan on being a part of West Central.”
