While there are many differences between Germany and America, the biggest is the school system. In Germany, we are in the same class for the whole year; we don’t switch classes every period. Furthermore, the teachers come to our class and our periods are 45 minutes long. We have breaks between every period. The first break is five minutes long, the second is ten minutes, the third is 20 minutes, the fourth is 10 minutes and the last break is 5 minutes. We don’t have lunch at school because our school day ends between 12:25 pm and 2:02 pm. This depends on how many classes you have each day, because you have different classes everyday. If you are a junior, you also have classes at night, but only two or three times a week. We also have three different kinds of schools in Germany: Hauptschule, Realschule, and Gymnasium. The difference between them is that you have nine years of school in the Hauptschule, ten years in the Realschule, and 13 years in the Gymnasium.
Another difference is the date of holidays. Christmas is on December 24 in Germany but December 25 in America. On the 24th you are with your family, on the 25th you go to your grandparents’ house and on the 26th you go to visit your other grandparents.
