It was a calm, clear day on Monday, April 23. It was one of the best days of the year so far, and it just so happened that there was the biggest girls golf meet on the same day. There were 15 schools involved including the Lady Trojans at the West Central Invitational held at Central Valley Golf Course in Hartford.

Coach Jacob Sittig said, “Our girls competed very well at this meet. We shot our lowest team score of the season so far and took home 6th place.” The Lady Trojans are steadily improving as a team and as individuals. Eighth grader Alexa From led all Trojan golfers with a score of 92, which was good for 12th place. Senior Angie Ewert followed close behind with a 94, and that was good for a tie for 15th place.

As well as the team did, it was hard to hold off Parkston from winning the invitational. With three players finishing in the top four, Parkston swept away the competition with Sioux Falls Christian finishing 14 shots behind. With the season in full swing, the girls are looking toward improving their games so they can become a formidable threat down the stretch. Coach Sittig has a lot of confidence in his team saying, “Since this was our best showing of the year so far, I feel the team is heading in the right direction. The girls work hard in practice and continue to fine-tune their game.”

With the team continuing to get better, their focus is on getting to the state tournament. They have a lot of work to do, but they are prepared to do what they need to do to reach their ultimate goal. Not only do they want to reach the state tournament, they want to win it. With the next meet on April 30, the girls hope to prove that they are a worthy opponent and can do some damage at the state tournament.

A triangular in Lennox at the Lenkota Golf Course was the second meet of the year for West Central. Although the weather turned out to be a bit chilly, the Trojans came prepared. Madison joined the two golf squads while looking to achieve a victory. The meet consisted of both varsity and junior varsity.

While many golfers struggled on that Tuesday, others brought their A-game. Leading the way for the Trojans was senior Nolan Bostic who fired a solid 75. Following were sophomores Dylan From with an 82 and Cole Rockafellow with an 84. Also on varsity for the Trojans was Ethan French shooting an 85 and Nathan Bostic with an 87. Leading the way for the Lennox Orioles was Dusty Javers who hit 75. Other top scores for the Orioles were 86 and 92. For Madison, top scores included an 85, 86 and 88. To break the tie between Lennox’s number one and West Central’s number one, a sudden death playoff match was initiated. Nolan Bostic won with a par on the first hole.
